How to Measure Your Calf for the Perfect Boot Fit
Share
Before you order a pair of knee-high or over-the-knee boots, there's one measurement worth taking that most size charts skip entirely: your calf circumference.
What You'll Need
A soft measuring tape (the kind used for sewing). If you don't have one, a strip of string or ribbon works — mark where it overlaps, then measure that length against a ruler.
How to Measure
- Stand with your weight evenly balanced on both feet.
- Find the widest part of your calf — usually a few centimetres below the knee.
- Wrap the tape around it snugly, without pulling it tight or leaving it loose.
- Note the measurement, then repeat on the other leg — most people have a small difference between the two.
Reading the Result
Use the larger of your two measurements against these ranges:
- Narrow fit: up to 35cm / 13.75in
- Regular fit: 35–38cm / 13.75–15in
- Wide fit: 38–43cm / 15–17in
- Extra-wide fit: 43cm+ / 17in+
Every product page in our Wide-Calf edit lists the shaft circumference for that specific style, so you can compare it directly against your own number rather than guessing from a generic size label. For more detail, see the full Size & Fit Guide.
